Spread Weave

The "Drive & Kick" offense is essentially a three player weave. Out of a 3-2 spread alignment, it is initiated with dribble penetration to the basket for a lay up shot. If the defense collapses and denies the dribble penetration to the basket, the handler then passes the ball back outside and replaces the receiver. The drive and kick can be a good option to use when running time off the clock prior to running a set play.

Dribble Penetration

Drive Left Drive Right

The ball handler has the "Green Light" to take the ball hard to the basket for an easy lay up anytime they can beat their defender. However, they must avoid any offensive charge situations.

Kick Out Pass Left Kick Right

If the defender denies the dribble penetration, then O1 passes the ball back out to O2 or O3 and circles to the sideline replacing O2 or O3.

Basic Continuity

Continuity 1
O1 dribble penetrates to the basket. If the defender denies the dribble penetration, then O1 passes the ball back out to O2 and circles to the sideline replacing O2. O2 upon receiving the pass assumes a triple threat position and then dribble penetrates to the basket.
Continuity 2
When O2's dribble penetration is cut off, O2 makes a pass back outside to O3 and circles to the sideline replacing O3. O3 upon receiving the pass assumes a triple threat position.
Continuity 3
The basic three player weave action continues with O3 dribble penetrating to the basket.

Corner Help

Help Left Help Right

If/when the baseline players zone, the dribbler can make a kick out pass to the corner player who in turn, passes the ball back outside and the dribble penetration action continues taking valuable time off the clock.

Back Cut Option

Back Cut Left Back Cut Right

When a baseline defender sags off to help out against the dribble penetration, the dribbler can make an easy drop pass to the corner back cutting to the basket.
