Proven Baseline Out of Bounds Plays

Triangle Alignment - "Pick the Picker"

Pick the Picker is an effective play against either a man to man or zone defense, and commonly results in an easy back when executed well.

Right Side Entry

Pick the Picker. O5 steps up and sets a back screen for shooter O2. O4 then sets a back screen for O5. Inbounder O3 looks to make a pass to O2 or feed O5 rolling to basket off O4's screen.

Continuity Option: If O2 does not have a high percentage shot or when the ball is inbounded directly to O1, action flows into a predetermine continuity.

Automatic: If/when the defense plays to the inside and leaves the inbounder unguarded or zones, O3 has option of making a quick pass to O5 and then stepping inbounds for a return pass from O5.

Left Side Entry

Pick the Picker. O5 steps up and sets a back screen for shooter O2. O4 then sets a back screen for O5. Inbounder O3 looks to make a pass to O2 or feed O5 rolling to basket off O4's screen.

Triangle Alignment - "Base Pinch"

Base Pinch has been a stalwart in the NBA. The flexability of being able to quickly attack either side of the defense has made Base Pinch a stalwart baseline out of bounds play in the NBA.

Right Side Entry - Go Same

Go Same Option O3 and O5 set base screens for O1. O1 goes over O5's screen for shot. O5 rolls to basket as O4 sets a down screen for O3. Inbounder passer O2 looks to pass to O1 for shot or feed O5 or O4 rolling to basket off screens. When O2 passes directly out to O3, predetermined continuity action is initiated.

Back Screen Option: On the weakside, O3 can set a back screen for O4.

Automatic: If/when the defense plays to the inside and leaves the inbounder unguarded or zones, O3 has option of making a quick pass to O5 and then stepping inbounds for a return pass from O5.

Right Entry - Go Opposite

Go Opposite When O1 goes opposite off O3's base screen, O3 after setting the sscreen continues off O5's screen. Inbounder O2 looks to feed O1 or O3 or O5 rolling to basket off screen.

Continuity: If a high percentage shot is unavailable, O4 sets a down screen for O1. When O2 passes directly to O1 predetermined continuity action begins. NOTE: O1 also has option of setting a backscreen for O4.

Automatic: On the initial alignment, if defender X1 assumes a facing position against O1 with back to inbounds passer O2, O2 looks to make a lob pass entry to O1.


Left Go Same Side Entry

Go Same Option O3 and O5 set base screens for O1. O1 goes over O5's screen for shot. O5 rolls to basket as O4 sets a down screen for O3. Inbounder passer O2 looks to pass to O1 for shot or feed O5 or O4 rolling to basket off screens. When O2 passes directly out to O3, predetermined continuity action is initiated.

Back Screen Option: On the weakside, O3 can set a back screen for O4.

Automatic: If/when the defense plays to the inside and leaves the inbounder unguarded or zones, O3 has option of making a quick pass to O5 and then stepping inbounds for a return pass from O5.

This play is designed to free up shooters along the baseline along with having screen and roll options if the defense switches.

Right Side Entry

Flair. O3 and O5 step up and set tandem back screens for shooter O2. O2 cuts baseline for shot as O1 screens for O3. Inbounder O4 looks to pass shooters O2 or O3 or feed O5 rolling to basket off screen.

Post Up Options: When the ball is passed to either wing or passed directly out to O1, O4 steps inbounds on the weakside and posts up. When O1 receives the ball continuity action is initiated.

Left Side Entry

Triangle Alignment - "Base Cross"

Base Cross utilizes a base screen and back screen winding up in a single/double screen option for the inbounds passer. These quick hitting options make it very difficult to defend. It is effective against both a man to man and zone defense.

Right Side Entry

Base Cross Screen: O3 sets a base cross screen for O5. O5 goes over O3's screen for shot. Inbounder passer O2 looks to make a lob pass to O5 or, if the defense switches, feeds O5 posting up against the smaller defender.

Back Screen Option: After setting a back screen for O5, O3 steps up and sets a back screen for O4. Inbounds passer looks to feed O4 cutting to the basket off O3's screen.

Single/Double Screen: If/when the O5's or O4's options are not available, O2 makes a release pass out to O1 as O5 and O3 set a staggered double screen and O4 sets up for a base screen. Inbounder O2 steps inbounds under the basket and has option of curling off O3's and O5's staggered double screen or O4's single screen.
